Parking Mode

MiVue™ Dash Cams that have parking mode provide protection for your vehicle when it is parked and the engine is switched off. It uses a built-in motion and shock detection technology to detect motion in front of the camera and vibration to your vehicle. The Dash Cam requires our SmartBox accessory (sold separately) which safely hardwires your Dash Cam to your vehicle and uses the vehicle’s battery as a power source.  The SmartBox has a built-in smart voltage protection and timer settings that will monitor your vehicle’s battery consumption when used in parking mode. The Dash Cam will automatically shut off based on a pre-set time or if your vehicle’s battery voltage drops below a certain level to prevent excess drainage of the battery.

Your Dash Cam may have two separate Parking settings. Smart mode and Low Power mode. For a list of devices that have the optional power mode, please see the bottom of this page.

Smart Parking Mode
Smart parking mode recordings are triggered when either moving objects or vibrations are detected (by both the front or rear* motion sensor and the G-Force sensor). The Dash Cam is constantly monitoring for parking events and will activate smart parking once it detects any motion or vibrations capturing a preset time before and after the event.

Low Power Parking Mode
Low power parking mode recordings are triggered by vibrations only (by the G-Force sensor),the Dash Cam is in standby mode and

wakes up and captures the parking event when shock is detected and returns to standby mode after the event to conserve power usage so it can protect your vehicle for longer.

Parking mode does not mean your Dash Cam is constantly recording. Instead, it allows the Dash Cam to sit in a monitoring or standby modes, so it is ready to record when triggered. The recording is then ‘hard-saved’ into a write-protected folder on the micro-SD card so it will not be easily overwritten unless the card is re-formatted or the folder is filled up with parking events. We recommend you check your microSD card regularly and back up any footage as once it is full it will overwrite these recordings.

There are 3 types of SmartBox available:

While the SmartBox can be installed by users, we strongly recommend professional installation by an automotive electrician, or car audio installer.

Note: some Navman MiVue™ Dash Cams do not come with parking mode, but when paired with a SmartBox, will allow continuous recording regardless of whether the vehicle has knocked or shocked This can be quite taxing on your microSD card, so we recommend using the largest capacity endurance card suitable for your dash cam, and that you format it regularly.
