GPS Reviews and Media Coverage for Navman GPS New Zealand

  • April 2014 - A dedicated GPS in your car is a fine thing

John Davidson reviews the Navman SmartGPS for the Australian Financial Review. The review states, before you leave the house, it will use your home’s Wi-Fi network to download information from the social media sites Yelp and Foursquare, to give you an up-to-date guide to restaurants, cafes and other points of interest on your route. It will download petrol prices for the day, so you can navigate yourself to the cheapest petrol. And it will download the latest traffic and safety alerts. Davidson says he had some difficulties with these features from the first device he tested. The second device worked much better, especially with the petrol prices. Davidson states, the information display on the SmartGPS is excellent, it uses a series of small flip cards, which shows a good deal of internet-derived info on the same screen as the map itself. Where you’d be forced to flip between apps on your phone to get, say, petrol prices, Foursquare information on nearby restaurants and the map, the SmartGPS shows it all in a single screen.

The Smart GPS updates its details over Wi-Fi while parked in your garage and can then deliver those details in real time as you pass them, whether it’s a mobile speed camera or coffee shop offer.
